To reflect industry standards; we have chosen to utilize Avid’s Pro Tools platform as our digital audio workstation. Students also have access to , Ableton Live, Propellarhead’s Reason, Native Instruments, Audiokinetic Wwise, Unity, iZotope RX, Apple's Logic Pro. MOSMA digital audio workstations are also equipped with third-party plug-ins from McDSP, Massey plugins, Valhalla DSP, Sound Toys, Brainworx, Waves, SSL and Focusrite and more.

Projects include multi-track recording sessions with various local recording artists, radio ad production, and sound design for visual media. Students will conduct both preparatory projects guided by instructor leading into final practicum where students are expected to be self-managed.

Yes. MOSMA is a Registered Private Vocational Institution under The Private Vocational Institutions Act. It is also designated by Manitoba Student Aid which means students may be eligible for funding via Canada Student Loans in any province or territory and or Financial Institutions (RESPs, Student Bank Loans, Manitoba Employment & Training, First Nations Bands, etc.).

We consider any experience in the audio field to be an asset. Our applicants come from various backgrounds such as vocal, instrumental and technical. Any effort in additional knowledge or exposure to recording audio is an investment for any individual. MOSMA also offers introductory short-courses some of our full-time students have taken in order to gain more aptitude and experience.

Evaluations are done through written tests, lab assignments, practical tests and final practicum. Students must achieve seventy percent or higher to successfully complete the programme.

We do not require students to have a laptop or any of the programs we utilize, as all projects are assigned and conducted within our facility; although students have found it helpful to have this software at home for additional practice.

A diploma is issued to students who achieve a seventy percent or higher upon completion of the programme. As of 2019, MOSMA became an AVID Learning Partner and its students can achieve Pro Tools User Certification.Students will also develop a personal portfolio exhibiting various projects they have completed throughout the programme.

MOSMA has been training students for careers in the audio production industry since 1995.

Graduates are qualified to enter any position within the Audio Production Industry; this includes areas in Live Sound Reinforcement, Studio Recording, Production Sound for Film, Post-Production Film and Television, Sound Design for Interactive Media, Commercial and Imaging Radio Production and Corporate AV. Individuals also have the option to freelance within any of these categories.

Students are expected to dedicate two hours of study time per day. This includes assigned reading from the Audio in Media textbook, reviewing class notes and practical activities such as technical ear training.

Everyone is welcome to join our roster for Edu sessions by submitting the form below. We accept applicants from any/all genres of music, solo artists and full bands.

There is no application fee associated with Edu Recording Sessions.

You will be provided with a complete multi-track data backup of the session in its entirety on your own hard drive.

Please do not apply for a session if you are uncertain of your availability. In the event that you need to cancel, provide as much notice as possible.

Yes. MOSMA has no rights to your music although the project may be used in the future in an educational capacity.

We are interested in accommodating what works on a group by group basis. Although recording with a metronome can assist in editing/comping, it is by no means mandatory. The method/schedule of recording will be discussed prior to the sessions with an instructor.

MOSMA will provide equipment required for recording (microphones, stands, headphones, etc.). Bands are required to bring their own musical instruments. Instrument storage is limited and must be approved by staff in advance.

We encourage collaboration between artists and students but it is not mandatory if schedule does not allow. We would, however, ask that feedback be given on the first draft of a mix, which will be sent via email. Revisions will be made based on artist feedback on mixes.

MOSMA's Edu sessions are primarily intended to provide our students with an educational experience. Completion (tracked and mixed) of one or two songs is a reasonable expectation within the time allocated for these sessions.

Edu Sessions take place throughout our Audio in Media programme. Once you have joined our roster, an instructor will contact you regarding sessions dates and scheduling.
